Highlights From The Last Eight Days In MMA & Boxing

In all last Saturday nights UFC Fight Night 101 from Australia was largely garbage. But the Main Event between Robert Whittaker and Derek Brunson was off the chain. Just an all out sprint for the entire first round while it lasted, well worth your five minutes to check out.

Whittaker at +125 was a steal. Lot of people who wagered on Brunson seemed puzzled by his game plan, but that’s exactly what got him there in the first place rushing his opponents and finishing them as fast as possible. Whittaker is too patient and countered perfectly though, awesome fight.

Also last Saturday night, Vasyl Lomanchenko arguably the best fighter on the planet made Nicholas Walters quit on the stool after the 7th round. Walters knew he was completely outgunned and traded off some fighters spirit for a little less CTE or flatlining knockout that was on it’s way. Fair trade off I’d say. Lomanchenko vs Manny would be bananas.

Gerald Harris had a quick stint in the UFC. Shockingly he’s still alive and here in the main event of Legacy 63 he delivers one of the nastiest slam KO’s of all time on Aaron Cobb.

Also at Legacy 63 Bilal Williams made Trey Williams do the stanky leg right before that.

I wasn’t able to check Bellator 163 out. Doesn’t sound like I missed all that much though aside from Joe Warren taking a beating from Eduardo Dantas by lopsided decision along with four submissions and five other decisions.

Some casual Saturday afternoon Russian boxing we got the biggest major upset of the year, 40 seconds into the first round +1000 Underdog Julius Indongo cleans Russian Eduard Troyanovsky

Over to The TUF Finale.

Nebraska boy and frequent Draft Kings opponent of mine, Anthony Smith represented well for the greatest state in the Union. He weathered a first round storm from Elvis Mutapic and messed him up standing in the second.

Smith also has the prestige of having possibly the shittiest ink in the whole UFC. A true accomplishment.

Matt Schnell came up a weight class on short notice to get his face kneed into oblivion and the ref let it go a few more hits for good measure.

Over at Bellator 167 Hall of Fame MMA Name “Chidi Njokuani” missed weight yesterday and took 20 seconds to lay Andre Fialho completely out.

With Hall of Fame MMA Ref Yosemite Sam on the call.

also Ilima Macfarlane fought… Not much to say about that other than, sup?

She won a decision then, whatever.

Some guy called Ryan Hall had depending on what way you look at it the best or worst fight of the year vs Gray Maynard. Hall kept pulling guard as Maynard chased him around and got dotted up with like 100 kicks as he chased.

Kevin Lee hated it

Hannibal Buress approved

Gray Maynard hated it

Twitter hated it

Ryan Hall didn’t give a shit

If you’re going to show up to Weigh In’s like this
as Ion Cutelaba did on Friday

Then before the fight do this-

You FOR SURE should not lose a decision to your opponent over three rounds with Cannonier just walking straight towards you with his hands down as the fight ended.

The other Nebraska fight did not go as well. Jake Ellenberger was getting hammered by Jorge Masvidal then Jake’s toe got caught in the cage for a quick second and he was covering up, fight stopped and he loses by TKO. Luckily for Jake he was well on his way to getting stopped, built in excuse to get another fight now and not be cut.

Toe-tally ridiculous ending to that fight smh

Darrion Caldwell took a decision in the rematch with Joe Taimanglo in the Bellator Main Event.

125 Pounders Joseph Benavidez and Henry Cejudo had an awesome fight. Score cards all over the place with Cejudo having a point taken away in the first from two illegal shots in a minute and Benavidez taking the win (27-29), (30-26), (29-27).

That fight NEEDED to be a five rounder. I had it 28-28 and it was probably the best I’ve ever seen Cejudo look.

The TUF Finale is coming in now at well over a brisk six hours time. The pacing of some of these cards is just brutal.

In the Main Event Underdog Tim Elliot, the winner of this season of TUF SHOCKED THE WORLD as a +900 Underdog vs the P4P Best fighter in the world Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson when he decisively won the first round… Then was clean swept the next four rounds by DJ. Hardest fight DJ has been in, Elliot had him in real trouble in the first but it’s too damn late to still be going.

Next weekend back with Bellator 168, from BUFFALO! It’s UFC Fight Night 101 somehow headlined by Derek Lewis vs some guy called “Shamil Abdurakhimov” and UFC 206 with Max Holloway vs Anthony Pettis & Matt Brown vs Cowboy Cerrone…

Plus the King Returns to Omaha, Bud Crawford is going to box the dog shit out of John Molina on HBO
